Fix Camera and Microphone Problems on Mobile

Troubleshoot camera and microphone access for browser video chat on your phone. Check permissions, audio output, and connection basics.

First identify which part is failing

A black picture, a missing permission prompt, and a call with no sound can have different causes. Before changing settings, note whether your own camera preview appears, whether the browser shows a camera indicator, and whether you can hear other audio on the phone.

Close other apps that may be using the camera. Check that the lens is not covered, the device is not muted, and a Bluetooth headset has not taken over the audio output. Then retry once after the change so you can tell what helped.

On iPhone or iPad

Open ChatmatchCam directly in Safari rather than a small browser window inside another app. Review the website’s camera and microphone permissions in Safari’s page or website settings. The names and locations of those controls can vary with your iOS version.

If access is still blocked, review Safari’s settings in the Settings app and any device restrictions. Apple’s Safari settings guide is the reference for your current software. Return to the site after changing permissions and reload before trying again.

On Android

In Chrome, open the site’s permission controls and check Camera and Microphone. If a permission is blocked, change it only when you intend to make a call. Also check Android’s app permissions for Chrome; a device-level block can prevent a website permission from working.

Google’s camera and microphone help covers the browser settings. If you use a different browser, follow its own permission controls. A phone managed by work or school may have restrictions you cannot change yourself.

If there is video but no sound

Avoid granting new permissions repeatedly when the real issue is audio output. Change one setting at a time and check the result.

  • Check the call’s microphone mute control and your device volume.
  • Verify whether sound is going to headphones, a speaker, or a nearby Bluetooth device.
  • Disconnect and reconnect a headset if the wrong microphone is selected.
  • Ask whether the other person can hear you; their device may also be muted.

If the connection is unstable

Move to a stronger connection, pause large downloads, and keep the browser in the foreground. A private window can help identify an extension or stored-setting issue, but it is not an anonymity guarantee. Never disable security protections or install an unknown browser extension to make a call work.

If the issue continues, note your device, browser version, error text, and the time. The contact page explains what to include. You can also review the browser video chat guide before retrying.

After the technical problem is resolved, return to the first-call setup guide. If another participant is asking for passwords, codes, or remote access as a supposed fix, stop and use the online chat safety plan instead.
